The Southern Virginia Recreation Facilities Authority has hired the organization's first staff members. Dennis Toney, Executive Director of the Authority, announces the appointment of an Office Manager and Administrative Interns.

Deborah Scearce has been hired for the position of Office Manager/Executive Assistant with the Authority. Deborah is a native of Henry County and most recently served as Executive Assistant to the President/CEO of H&E Equipment Services (formerly J. W. Burress, Inc.) in Roanoke. She also worked as an Administrative Assistant and Inventory Control Specialist for Tultex, Inc. in Martinsville from 1987-1999. Deborah is a graduate of Fieldale-Collinsville High School and is completing her requirements for an AAS degree in Business Management Technology at Patrick Henry Community College. Deborah is married to Jim Scearce with a daughter, Kristin, a senior at Randolph-Macon College and resides in Collinsville.

Billy Russo, a graduate of High Point University has been hired as an Intern by the Authority with responsibility in Operations Planning. Billy's previous experience includes work as Student Assistant Coach with the High Point University men's basketball team, athletic operations intern at Wake Forest University and facility manager in the High Point University Recreation Center. Billy is currently enrolled in the Masters of Science in Sport Studies program at High Point University. He will reside in Eden, NC.

Neal Webb will also work as an Intern for the Authority and is a December graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Sports Management. Neal's experience includes an internship with the University of South Carolina baseball team and a stadium operations tour of six major league and six minor league baseball stadiums. Neal is from Greenville, SC, with a career goal of Sports Arena Management and she will reside in Martinsville.

The Authority also announces that the design plan for the Smith River Sports Complex is complete with the Harvest Foundation initiating an invitation for construction bids. A pre-bid conference for general contractors, subs and vendors will be held on January 31, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Henry County Administration Building in the first floor board room.
